Christmas cheer as lunch is served

Christmas lunch went down a treat at a Cambuslang primary school.
Pupils from Park View Primary School enjoyed a traditional lunch and were joined on the special occasion by the council’s deputy Chair of the Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Maureen Devlin, and Head of Facilities, Waste and Grounds, Kevin Carr.
The school kitchens across South Lanarkshire have prepared and served an amazing 1730kg of turkey, 3362kg of roast potatoes and over 15,000 portions of snowy topped brownie.
Councillor Devlin said: “It was fantastic fun to share Christmas lunch with the pupils, you could tell they were really excited for the big day – and of course a visit from a certain man in a red suit.
“The Park View pupils were very friendly and chatty and extremely organised in putting their plates and cutlery back.
“The whole lunch ran like clockwork and is testimony to the hard work of all the catering staff, something which I know is replicated at schools across South Lanarkshire.
“Special mention must go to all the staff in the background as well who ensure each school gets enough to make sure the day is a special one for each child – no easy feat when you see the amount of food that was enjoyed by everyone.
“I would also like to thank all the school staff, including the head teacher, teachers and support staff, who made sure the lunch service went so smoothly on such a busy day.”
Kevin Carr said: “Preparing lunches on a daily basis is a huge undertaking but one which our Facilities teams across the area perform to an exceptionally high standard every day.
“I was delighted to be invited along to Park View Primary School – and have to say compliments to the chef for a really tasty and nutritious lunch.”
The Christmas lunch is just the icing on the cake as the council’s catering staff prepare wide range of nutritious Primary School lunches every day throughout the school year meeting the legislative requirements of the Food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2020.
