A number of junctions in Hamilton are to be upgraded as part of the Hamilton Community Growth Area (CGA).

A Full Business Case for the Hamilton Road Junctions Improvement Project was approved at the council’s Executive Committee.

As part of the £1.13 billion Glasgow City Region City Deal, the Hamilton CGA comprises several individual education and transport infrastructure projects.

There will be five road junction improvements in Hamilton, with a total project cost of £4.22million:

  • Two junctions located on Wellhall Road at Woodfoot Road and Hillhouse Road will see one of the existing two roundabouts increased and further widening to improve capacity.
  • The existing Woodfoot Road / Highstonehall Road junction will be upgraded to provide a right turn storage.
  • Both junctions at Gateside Street / Johnstone Drive and Strathaven Road / Mill Road will be upgraded to provide traffic signal control along with pedestrian crossing facilities.

Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “Improving these road junctions is a key component of the Hamilton Community Growth Area.

“The improvements are required to address the increase in traffic movements in the local road network.

“We will let people know well in advance of any work taking place in a bid to minimise disruption to local road users.”

Work on the roads is expected to be completed by Summer 2025.
