Bowling along nicely thanks to PB money

A bowling club is hoping to encourage young people to take up the sport with help from the Participatory Budgeting fund.
Halfway and District Bowling Club is looking to start a junior section of the club after receiving £3,000 from the fund.
The money will also go towards new equipment specifically for children and young people.
Stephen McIntyre from Halfway and District Bowling Club said: "We were delighted to receive funding from SLC's Participatory Budgeting scheme.
“This will allow us to start a junior section for the first time in many years.
“We'll be able to buy new bowls that are suitable for children along with some equipment that our qualified coaches will be able to use when teaching the kids.
“Over the last couple of years, we've had people bring kids into the club to try bowls and we also had the whole of Park View Primary on the greens last year as part of their sports week.
“Many of the kids enjoyed playing so now that we can start a junior section, we can hopefully encourage them back."
Council Leader and Chair of the Community Planning Partnership, Councillor Joe Fagan, said: “I’m delighted that the club will use this money to attract young people into bowls, taking part in an activity that provides both physical and mental health support.
“As ever, it’s this community-led approach that makes the PB process so unique; it genuinely hands the decision-making power to those ideally placed to identify local priorities.
“I thank and congratulate everyone, both in our communities and in the council, who work hard together to foster such a spirit of democracy and togetherness.”
