Roads resurfacing works for Larkhall town centre
Published: Tuesday 14 May 2024
The council is investing £100,000 in a package of roads improvement work in Larkhall this month.
To enable the work to be undertaken safely, the town’s Drygate Street will be closed at different locations, avoiding the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May'
From Monday 20 until Thursday 23 May, work will be on the stretch of road between Muir Street and Station Road; from Tuesday 28 through to Friday 31 May work moves to the road surface between Duke Street and Station Road.
As major resurfacing works are being carried out, no vehicles (except emergency services) can park or drive during the closure periods, on either stretch of Drygate Street.
Residents are being contacted with additional information about access arrangements
Colin Park, Head of Roads, Transportation, and Fleet Services explained: “Unfortunately, neither of the areas of Drygate Street where work is planned, is sufficiently wide to enable us to maintain vehicle access and keep our workforce safe. That’s why closures will be required in each phase.
“We fully appreciate the inconvenience and frustration road closures can cause, and we thank motorists, residents, and businesses in advance for their patience and cooperation.
“Nonetheless, this work represents a significant investment in road maintenance and safety in Larkhall town centre. We hope that all who use it will agree that the temporary inconvenience will deliver long-term benefits for the community.
“As ever we would ask motorists in the area to plan ahead and build in additional journey time when they can.”
