Lease agreed for boxing club to take over centre

A boxing club in Law is to take over the lease of a hall in the village.
It has been agreed that the Tom Craig Centre will be leased to Law Boxing Club (LBC) for a period of one year.
It is one of the assets that South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture were intending to withdraw from following their budget meeting in February of this year.
It is intended that LBC will initially operate the facility as a boxing club and gym hall to promote health, fitness and wellbeing, with plans in place to develop further activities for the local community before then progressing to a full Community Asset Transfer.
Chair of the Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “It’s great news that the Tom Craig Centre will remain open and provide a valuable resource for the local community of Law.
“Approving this lease allows the organisation to assess the viability of the proposal and develop plans for a future, longer term agreement or purchase.”
