Lunch club to strengthen links between Scotland and Africa

A new cooker is to help a group further strengthen community cohesion between Scotland and Africa.
Heart of Africa UK promote integration through arts, food and community activities to enhance the understanding of Africa and ethnic minorities in the UK.
They had requested a cooker and kitchen equipment through the Community Wish List, with the aim of launching a community lunch club.
Maxi Construction Ltd were able to fulfil the request.
Caroline Ayiku from Heart of Africa UK said: “This donation will help us start a new kitchen at Hareleeshill Community Hub in Larkhall.
“We have always wanted an upgrade so we can start a community lunch club there. This donation has moved us closer to achieving our mission.”
Compliance Manager for Maxi Construction Ltd, Lisa Aitken, said: “We were delighted to be able to reuse commercial kitchen equipment released from a GPA Project in East Kilbride.
“We were only able to achieve this by working collaboratively with the GPA to identify equipment coming free and with South Lanarkshire Council to identify possible benefactors. We were assisted in the removal, storage, and distribution by James Scott (Kitchen Engineers) Ltd.
“As a result, several community groups throughout South Lanarkshire have benefitted from the donation of much needed equipment which might otherwise have gone to landfill or for recycling.”
The Community Wish List is supported by South Lanarkshire Council’s Community Engagement Team.
Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.
"I would like to thank all the companies who have so generously donated so far."
