Changes to waste accepted at smaller sites
Published: Thursday 28 March 2024

Some items will no longer be able to be disposed of at two household waste recycling centres from Monday 1 April.
UK-wide legislation comes into force from that day, which means mattresses, couches and other upholstered seating will no longer be accepted at the smaller sites in Larkhall and Strathaven.
This is because there is insufficient space at the smaller sites to accommodate additional, dedicated skips.
Residents will still be able to dispose of these items at the larger sites in Carluke, East Kilbride, Hamilton/Blantyre and Rutherglen.
Residents are also still able to request a bulk uplift for these items online, or by phoning 0303 123 1020.
