Pupils at Hamilton Grammar School are a picture of environmental friendliness.
For the ASN environmental class has won a South Lanarkshire-wide competition to create a short film about the Biodiversity of the school grounds – and won a camera trap for the school garden.
The pupils won the Secondary School category in the council-run competition with their film about the nature garden and their winning entry can be viewed online.
ASN Science Teacher Michelle Colbourne said: “The young people benefited so much from just the experience of making the film, but to win the prize is a great boost to them and is testament to the brilliant work they put into it.
“The camera trap will be an invaluable asset to helping pupils throughout the school in their learning about nature and we are excited about the opportunities it will bring.”
The prize was presented to the class by Councillor Mark McGeever, chair of the council’s Climate Change Committee, who said: “I was highly impressed with the quality of the video and greatly entertained by it, and so am delighted that it proved to be a winner.
“Wildlife is so important to our environment and it is encouraging to see young people learning about it and able to take that knowledge and appreciation into their later life. I wish the school many enjoyable lessons that will be enhanced by this camera trap.”
