Excellent report for small rural school

Lamington Primary School has been given an excellent report by Education Scotland after a visit by a team of HMIe inspectors.
The report stated that Lamington Primary School provides a creative and enthusiastic environment for its pupils who are responsible and highly engaged in their learning. The pupils also clearly show that they think for themselves and take on meaningful leadership roles which are an asset to their school.
And the quality indicators rated by the inspectors were:
- Learning, teaching and assessment – Excellent
- Raising attainment and achievement - Excellent
The inspectors also highlighted the inspirational leadership of the headteacher who “empowers all staff across the school to lead, resulting in sustained progress and achievement for all children”.

Head Teacher Jill Kennedy said: “Our entire school community is so proud of the evaluation of excellence awarded to our small, rural school by Education Scotland.
“The key strengths identified really reflect what makes Lamington so special.
“Lamington Primary provides high quality learning experiences that result in excellent attainment and achievement that prepare our children well for life.
“It continues to be a privilege to work within such an exceptional school community.”
The inspection team also highlighted that the school community showed outstanding collaborative working to ensure the wellbeing of all the pupils to makes sure they feel valued and included in school life.
Staff also demonstrated innovative, high-quality learning and teaching skills which enhanced curiosity and play in the classroom and also outdoors.

Carole McKenzie, the council’s Executive Director of Education, said: “Congratulations to Jill Kennedy and everyone in the Lamington school community for working so hard to achieve this excellent HMIe report.
“Our smaller primary schools are remarkable places where staff, parents and families can work very closely together to ensure that every pupil is getting the very best start in their educational journey.
“I am also delighted that the inspectors highlighted that any challenges faced by the rural community, including social inclusion of all children, was overcome and integrated into the everyday life and work of the school.”
