Beat the Street Clydesdale enters Go Travel phase
Published: Friday 13 October 2023

More than 6,200 people have already taken to the streets of South Lanarkshire since the game launched across the area last month
And with the game now in the Go Travel stage, participants are actively walking, wheeling or cycling between Beat Boxes located on lampposts around Chapelton, Larkhall, Strathaven, Stonehouse, Carluke, Law, Braidwood, Netherburn, Kirkmuirhill, Crossford, Lesmahagow, Lanark and Coalburn.
During Go Travel week, players can clock up double points on Beat Boxes around commuting hours from 7am to 9am and also 3pm to 6pm on weekdays. Those playing may also notice some intriguing new noises coming from the Beat Boxes.
The Beat the Street Clydesdale game launched on 20 September with 1,506 participants signing up on its first day, soaring up to 2,677 by day two.
And since the launch participants have already clocked up a total of more than 59,000 miles.
Councillor Robert Brown, the chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, said: “No matter where Beat the Street takes place it always generates an enormous amount of enthusiasm and fun from so many people in the local area.
“With many smaller communities getting involved this time around I am sure that everyone who has signed up to take part will enjoy getting out and about exploring their own area and perhaps finding places they never knew existed or had just never got round to going to see.
“But of course, the real bonus is the health benefits of getting active each day, which has proven in the past to result in so many people, of all ages, continuing to stay active long after the game has ended.”
Beat the Street is a free, fun interactive game that encourages people of all ages to move more by choosing to travel actively around their local area over a six-week period until the game officially ends on Wednesday 1 November.
As well as helping people create healthier lifestyle habits, it also improves air quality, reduces congestion and pollution, and connects people to their communities and green spaces.
Beat the Street Clydesdale is delivered by Intelligent Health on behalf of the council with support from South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Smarter Choices, Smarter Places and the Scottish Government.
