Improvements to be made to rural road
Published: Tuesday 12 September 2023
Essential resurfacing works are to take place at the boundary of South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire.
The A70 will be closed between Monksfoot and the East Ayrshire boundary from 8am on Monday 18 September for up to five days.
No motor vehicles (except those engaged in the work and emergency service vehicles) will be able to park or drive on the road during this time.
The signed diversion route will be as follows: B743 Muirkirk to Strathaven, A71 Strathaven to B7078 Canderside, B7078 Canderside to A70 Millbank and A70 via Douglas
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We are aware of the disruption that this road closure will cause and hope that the long-term benefits will be valued.
“Your patience and understanding during the works would be much appreciated.
“If you can avoid the area during the works please do so, but if not please leave extra time for your journey.”
