Improvement work set to begin on Hamilton’s Low Patrick Street
Published: Tuesday 11 July 2023
Major improvements are to be made to the road surface of Low Patrick Street, Hamilton, starting this month.
The council will carry out the work on the section of the road between its junctions with Townhead Street and High Patrick Street.
To minimise disruption, the work will be carried out in phases over two separate weekends, starting at 8am on Saturday, 22 July, and finishing by 8pm on by Sunday, 6 August, weather permitting.
The first phase, on the weekend of July 22 and 23, will see the closure of the northbound carriageway of the affected section of Low Patrick Street, with a diversion in place via A723 Blackswell Lane, A72 Palace Grounds Road, A72 Muir Street, A72 Almada Street, A724 Union Street, Auchincampbell Road, Kemp Street, Gateside Street and A723 Duke Street.
During phase two, on the weekend of August 5 and 6, the southbound carriageway of the same section will be closed, with the diversion being via A723 Duke Street, A724 Brandon Street, A724 Union Street, A72 Almada Street, A72 Muir Street, A72 Palace Grounds Road and A723 Blackswell Lane,
Although general traffic will be unable to travel through the closures during the works, the council will endeavour wherever possible to maintain access for residents and businesses who live or operate within the affected area. There may be instances where access and egress will be significantly delayed depending on the status and progress of the work on site but, whenever this occurs, traffic marshals and site staff will be on hand to advise and assist residents.
All road users are advised to allow additional time for any journeys that involve the use of Low Patrick Street during these times and to plan their journeys accordingly.
The council apologises for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works, but the results will be of benefit to drivers in the longer term.
