The British Empire Medal has been awarded to four people from across Lanarkshire for services to their communities.
Lorraine Swan was nominated for services to the community in Lanark.
David Cooney was nominated for services to athletics, in particular Cambuslang Harriers.
Anna Turner was nominated for international development with sustained impact.
Jane Reid Holloway was nominated for voluntary and charitable services to prostate cancer.
The medals were presented to the recipients by Lady Susan Haughey CBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.
South Lanarkshire Provost Margaret Cooper gave the opening remarks at the ceremony and North Lanarkshire Provost Kenneth Duffy gave the closing remarks. The summary of citation (why those who were nominated were receiving their medals) was given by South Lanarkshire Council Chief Executive, Cleland Sneddon.
Lady Haughey said: “I’d like to pay tribute to each of the individuals who have received their awards at this special occasion.
“It’s an entirely fitting way that the selfless commitment and dedication of each individual to their communities has been recognised. It’s also a proud day for each of the award recipients’ friends and families and I am delighted that we could recognise the incredible achievements of these individuals in this way.”
Provost Cooper said: “Congratulations to all four recipients of the British Empire Medal – I would encourage them to cherish it as a symbol of how much they are appreciated.
“In each of their cases, they have put others before themselves and given their time and efforts to enhancing the lives of other people.
“They should be immensely proud of their achievements.”
Provost Duffy said: “It was a real pleasure to be part of such a proud day for each of our award recipients and their friends and family.
“It is a day which everyone will remember for a long time with pride and happiness.
“On behalf of the people of North Lanarkshire I’d like to thank and congratulate you for everything you have done to receive your awards.”
