Published: Wednesday 7 June 2023
The Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Lady Susan Haughey CBE has announced the appointment of three new Deputy Lieutenants.
The new appointments to the region are Angela Bonomy DL, Alastair Peat DL, and Dr William Morrison Young DL.
Deputy Lord Lieutenants (DLLs) are appointed by the Lord Lieutenant to assist in the performance of their duties. They are appointed on the recommendation of the Lord Lieutenant and with the approval of the Monarch.
Angela Bonomy is the Chief Executive of Sense Scotland, a social care charity that supports people with complex learning, physical, and sensory disabilities. Angela is very proud of her Motherwell roots, and she attended Ladywell Primary School, Dalziel High School, and studied Law at Glasgow University. Angela has extensive experience in the third, public and private sectors, and currently sits on the Board of the Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland (CCPS) and the Glasgow City Integrated Joint Board (IJB). She also enjoys singing in a choir, which rehearses in Hamilton, and supporting Motherwell FC.
Alastair Peat was born in Bellshill and attended primary school in Coatbridge before beginning a 41-year career with Clydesdale Bank. He held a variety of roles in branches and specialist Head Office departments, including Law Department and Financial Crime Risk. Alastair is married to Fiona, and they have three children and three grandchildren. He has been involved in the voluntary sector for 46 years through his work with the Boys' Brigade and enjoys most sports, including football and badminton in his younger days. He is currently a season ticket holder at Albion Rovers FC.
Dr William Morrison Young studied medicine at Aberdeen University before joining his father-in-law, Dr J F Kay, in a GP practice in Hamilton. He quickly became the Senior GP Partner and worked in the practice as a family doctor for 34 years until his retirement in 2016. Dr Young is a Medical Officer for the Scottish Karate Federation and holds a senior 4th DAN qualification. He is also a keen scuba diver and currently serves as the treasurer of the local branch of Clyde Valley Divers. Dr Young has lived and worked in Lanarkshire for over 40 years and is well integrated into the community.
Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey CBE said: “I am delighted to welcome Angela, Alastair, and Morrison as new Deputy Lieutenants to the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy. Each brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to serving the community. I am confident they will make valuable contributions to the role and the people of Lanarkshire.”
