Changes to council services during festive holidays
Published: Monday 19 December 2022
Changes to council services during the festive period have been announced.
All the information can be found on a dedicated page on the council website.
All council offices will be closed on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December 2022, and on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 January 2023.
There will be no bin collections on Monday 26 December 2022 and Monday 2 January 2023.
All bin collections over the two-week festive period will be carried out one day later than normal. So if your normal collection day is a Monday, during this period it will be Tuesday, if it’s a Tuesday it will be the Wednesday, and so on.
Please note collections will be made on both Saturday 31 December 2022 and Saturday 7 January 2023 (if you bin collection day is a Friday). All collections will return to normal on Monday 9 January 2023.
Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Normal winter opening times will be in operation for all other days. Bookings must be made for Carluke HWRC.
Special bulk uplifts will not take place during the festive period, with the last uplift day on Friday 23 December. The first uplift day of the New Year will be Monday 9 January.
If you have a social work emergency when your local social work office is closed, please call the Emergency Social Work Service on 0303 123 1008.
All of our Registration offices remain closed to the public.
Appointments for the registration of births can be made online and death registrations will continue to be carried out remotely on 28, 29 and 30 December 2021.
In the event of an emergency (for example to carry out a death registration where the deceased has to be taken out of the country) during either holiday period please contact our out of hours contact service on 0800 242024 who will contact a Registrar on your behalf.
Information on opening hours for our leisure centres, cultural venues, country parks, libraries and more can be found on South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture’s website.
Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in South Lanarkshire.
“Many of our employees will of course be working right through the festive period and I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
“Please take note of the latest information on our website with regards what services will be available during this period.”
