Road improvements will see Bothwell’s Hamilton Road close
Published: Tuesday 11 October 2022
Work to improve the surface of the B7071 (Hamilton Road, Bothwell) will see the road close during the day this Sunday.
The closure will affect the stretch between the junctions with Bellshill Road and Old Bothwell Road (at its end closer to the centre of Bothwell) and is due to run from 9am to 6pm, although the road will reopen immediately if works are completed earlier.
Traffic will be unable to travel through the closure during the works and a diversion will be in place via B7071 Bellshill Road, A725 Bellshill Road, A721 New Edinburgh Road and B7071 Bothwell Road.
Every effort will be made to allow access where possible for residents and businesses who live or work within the area of the closure, but there are likely to be periods when vehicles will be unable to enter or exit the stretch of road depending on the status at the time of the works.
Councillor Robert Brown, Chair of the Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, said: “This is important work on a key route to improve the road surface. Unfortunately, the road is not sufficiently wide enough to safely maintain vehicular access while these resurfacing works are being carried out so there will inevitably be some disruption.
“We will, of course, make every effort to accommodate local businesses and residents, and traffic marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist residents during the working day.
“Local residents may find it advisable to park their vehicles outside the area of the road closure before the works start.
“In general, we ask that people avoid the area if possible during the works, and if they cannot manage to do so, that they leave extra time for their journey and plan their routes accordingly.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience but hope all road users will recognise the improvements to the road once they are completed and that the long-term gain outweighs any short-term pain these works might create.”
