Cash to help celebrations to mark EK@75
Published: Thursday 1 September 2022

Groups and organisations across East Kilbride have been awarded a share of £10,000.
The funding was allocated to commemorate the 75th anniversary of East Kilbride’s designation as a New Town.
The money came from unspent funds within South Lanarkshire Council’s Community Grants budget allocated to the East Kilbride Area Committee in 2021/2022.
Applications were invited from groups to host events which reflected the type of celebrations the community identified following a consultation exercise. The maximum grant available per group was £2,000.
This allowed the celebrations to be community led and at grass roots level, with the opportunity for every community to be involved in the design and delivery of an event which meant something to them.
The following groups were awarded grants:
- Special Needs Adventure Playground – £1,500 for an EK@75 themed four-week summer playscheme
- East Kilbride and District Dementia Carers’ Group – £1,800 for a high tea for service users and staff to celebrate EK@75 and the Queen’s Jubilee
- Friends of Langlands Moss - £1,000 for the planting of 100 to 150 trees
- Share Alike – £2,000 for a wall and shop front mural by local children working with an artist
- Sea Cadet Corps East Kilbride Unit 550 – £500 for a joint “birthday bash” party for EK@75 and the Cadets’ 50th anniversary
- Encore Stars Academy – £2,000 for a livestreamed performance in EK@75 uniform, photoshoot and short video
- Trust Jack Foundation – £400 for trips and activities for the group
- 3rd East Kilbride Scout Group – £400 for a 75th birthday themed group camp
- East Kilbride Cricket Club – £400 for summer coaching camps and celebration dinner for EK@75 and the club’s 60th anniversary
