Work to strengthen the roadside retaining wall on Mousemill Road, Kirkfieldbank adjacent to Mouse Mill gets underway next week.
Following preparatory work, including vegetation clearance and the formation of a works compound earlier in the week, the work to stabilise the slope and associated retaining works, which has been granted planning consent, will start on Monday 1 August.
Providing no unforeseen difficulties arise the work is expected to take around 16 weeks.
The work will include:
- dismantling the existing masonry retaining wall
- construction of a free-standing wall adjacent to Mouse Mill
- installation of a soil nailing system to stabilise and strengthen the exposed earth
- formation of a single lane carriageway on the section of Mousemill Road adjacent to the wall for the installation of a steel parapet
Vehicle movements on the section of single lane carriageway will be controlled on a signed priority basis.
Robert Brown, the chair of Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “I am delighted, after the successful completion of these works, this section of Mousemill Road will be reopened to vehicles.
“I would like to thank everyone for their patience during the long period of time when the road had to be closed to traffic for safety reasons.”
