Four council projects have been put forward for the 2022 Scottish Transport Awards.
Like so many prestigious awards, these have had to be postponed over the last two years due to Covid restrictions.
From the 15 categories available this year, the council has been listed in the following four:
- School Travel Plans – Best Practice in Travel to School and Work Schemes
By working with each school we encourage active travel. We undertake surveys, identify issues and solutions as well as implement various measures / initiatives. - Casualty Reduction Programme - Most Effective Road Safety, Traffic Management & Enforcement
Implementing measures and undertaking initiatives to reduce the number of casualties caused by road accidents. - Cambuslang Park and Ride - Contribution to Sustainable Transport
Built a new facility to encourage public transport use. - Project PACE – Transport Team / Partnership of the Year
Doubling the number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure from around 70 dual units to about 140.
Here is the list of all the projects up for this year's awards
Robert Brown, the chair of Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “I am delighted that these projects and programmes are being recognised as they reflect all the hard work and dedication that goes in across South Lanarkshire to make a wide variety of travel options as safe and sustainable as possible for everyone in our communities.
“After a two-year gap, it is great that these awards are taking place once more and I look forward to hearing the results with hopefully a few accolades along the way for our Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services.”
Supported by the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, Network Rail and The Railway Industry Association, the Scottish Transport Awards will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on 29 September 2022.
