Fresh start at Women in Business event

The first face-to-face Women in Business event to take place since the pandemic was a “huge success”.

More than 70 local businesses attended the event at the Strathaven Hotel.

One of the speakers, Lynne Darcey Quigley of Darcey Quigley and Co and Know-it, was interviewed on stage by Councillor Maureen Devlin, representing South Lanarkshire Council, about her business journey.

Lynne, who is the founder of the Blantyre-based commercial debt recovery specialists, spoke about a recent move into the Financial Technology sector with new product Know-it.

Business Studies students and teachers from Strathaven Academy also attended and Lynne has agreed to go to schools across South Lanarkshire to speak to pupils – this was requested by Developing the Young Workforce Team.

Lynne said “It was an honour to speak at the Lanarkshire Women in Business event and share my business journey. It is always great to have the opportunity to give back and help inspire the amazing women and girls in the Lanarkshire area.

“It was a fantastic turnout and a room full of wonderful female entrepreneurial talent. I love supporting the local business community, so I’d like to thank LWIB for putting on such a great event.”

Councillor Devlin said: “It really was inspiring to hear from Lynne about her business journey. I’m delighted she is going to pass her knowledge on to pupils at schools across the area.

“The event was a huge success and I would like to thank our other speaker, Wendy Chalmers Mill of Positive Performance, who has worked in the House of Commons, appeared on tv and radio as an authority on well-being at work and is a TedX speaker.

“Both speakers provided great inspirational insights into the world of business and South Lanarkshire Council’s business team were also on hand to offer attendees support and advice about getting started or developing their existing enterprises.

“I am sure lots of networking and connections were made and I can’t wait until the next event.”

More details will be available soon about the next meeting which is scheduled for August.
