Clean Air Day is the UK's largest air pollution campaign, engaging thousands of people at hundreds of events and reaching millions more through the media.

Led by Global Action Plan, a charity working for a green and thriving planet where people enjoy their lives within the Earth's resources, Clean Air Day brings together communities, businesses, schools and the health sector to:

• improve public understanding of air pollution
• build awareness of how air pollution affects our health
• explain the easy actions we can all do to tackle air pollution, helping to protect the environment and our health.

And residents across South Lanarkshire are once again being encouraged to take part in the Treasure Trail App game. 

Launched jointly by South and North Lanarkshire Councils last year, users download the App WALKCYCLE4AIR free of charge from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

They can then follow a trail on their phone, answering questions at landmarks around Hamilton Palace Grounds and Strathclyde Country Park. Once the questions have been answered, participants will submit their entry on the App. 

All entries will be entered into a prize draw where five winners will be selected at random and to each win £100 in gift vouchers for the local Halfords store.

Funding for the project has come from Scottish Government Air Quality Action Plan funding to encourage more sustainable forms of transport in an effort to improve local air quality in our towns and communities. The App was downloaded more than 1,100 times last year.

Councillor Robert Brown, Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, said: “The Treasure Trail App is designed to make walking, cycling, wheeling and scooting fun – and we hope this then means people automatically start incorporating using these methods in their everyday journeys.

“The game phase runs from now, right through the summer holidays and finishes on 27 August, meaning there is plenty of time to hit the treasure trail.

“I would encourage everyone to download the App and take part in a fun and inclusive way to enjoy being outdoors.”
