Bin it, don’t drop it!

The council has developed a Litter Strategy to tackle the problem of litter, fly tipping and dog fouling.
While littering is caused by a minority of people, it affects everyone in South Lanarkshire.
The Litter Strategy will focus on education, engagement and enforcement, with an emphasis on prevention and will build upon a range of existing initiatives as well as complementing a number of national campaigns.
The strategy’s vision for South Lanarkshire is:
- to be a cleaner place to live, work and visit, free of litter, fly-tipping and dog waste
- to encourage awareness, behaviour change and personal responsibility
- to work in partnership with different communities and community groups
We are currently working with different services within the council, community groups, businesses, and national stakeholders to improve our co-ordinated approach to achieving this vision.
To tackle littering and help keep South Lanarkshire clean, we all need to take responsibility for our waste and litter. Litter should be taken home and put in a bin and waste should be disposed of in a wheelie bin, taken to a Household Waste and Recycling Centre or removed by bulk uplift.
Remember, every household in South Lanarkshire is entitled to one free bulk uplift per financial year.
More information on littering and waste is available on the council website.
