Overnight closures to help minimise disruption

Major improvement works will be carried out over several nights at a key Hamilton roundabout.
To minimise disruption the majority of the works will take place over six consecutive nights at the A723 Hamilton Roundabout.

Phase two will see the first overnight closure from 6pm on Thursday 9 June until 6am on Friday 10 June. This is to allow kerbing and duct installation to take place, and there will be lane closures on the roundabout and the approaches to the roundabout.
Phase three will again see lane closures on the roundabout and approaches, this will take place from 6pm until 6am on both Friday 10 June and Saturday 11 June. This is to allow the inner two lanes of the roundabout to be resurfaced over the two nights.
Phase four will take place from 6pm on Sunday 12 June until 6am on Monday 13 June. For traffic traveling to Motherwell, a diversion will be in place to facilitate access to Motherwell Road via Asda roundabout and Palace Grounds Road slip road. Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “This is a significant route for traffic travelling in and out of Hamilton and although a substantial piece of work is taking place, the vast majority of it will take place overnight to try and minimise disruption.
“If you are going to be using this area during these times please allow additional time for all journeys, take note of the restrictions in place and plan your journey accordingly.
“Access for businesses/residents who live or work within the closure will be maintained wherever possible. There may be instances where access and egress will be significantly delayed depending on the stage of works on site. If you wish to avoid this, it may be advisable to park your vehicle outside the road closure prior to works starting. Traffic Marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist residents during the works.
“We apologise for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works.”
Reminders will be sent out before each phase of works, so please keep an eye on the council’s social media accounts – Facebook, Twitter and our Roads Twitter account.
