Lady Haughey CBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, was pleased to present Colonel Ted Shields MBE with his Deputy Lieutenant’s Commission at the Civic Centre in Motherwell on Friday 6 May. 

Colonel Shields spent 36 years in the Regular Army and is now the Chief Executive of the Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, a Government agency that supports and enables some 2,500 Reservists and 4,000 Cadets across the Lowlands of Scotland, many of whom are based in Lanarkshire.

He also continues to serve in the Army Reserve. Colonel Shields served on operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq and Afghanistan. He also enjoyed tours of duty in Hong Kong, Canada, Cyprus, South Africa and Jordan. He and his family have had their home in Clydesdale for 20 years. 

Colonel Shields said: “It is a great honour to have been appointed to this role by Lady Haughey. I am really looking forward to assisting the Lord-Lieutenant and the Lieutenancy more generally in their duties, especially in this landmark year of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”
