Awareness session next week ahead of elections
Published: Wednesday 9 March 2022

An online awareness session for potential councillors will take place next week.
The local government elections will be held on Thursday 5 May, when 64 councillors will be chosen to sit on South Lanarkshire Council.
The candidates' and election agents' awareness session will take place on Tuesday 15 March at 5.30pm via Microsoft Teams.
The session will provide valuable information on key contacts for the Election, Local Government Election Legislation information, information on the nomination pack, details of the pre-election publicity and information on the Electoral System.
Chief Executive of South Lanarkshire Council, and Returning Officer, Cleland Sneddon, said: “Councillors who are elected won’t just get to speak up for their own communities and help make the big decisions for the area – they will also benefit from a unique experience.
“It’s important that anyone who wishes to stand at the forthcoming elections attends this session.
“Although we are still very much in the planning stage, we will be able to share some key information with candidates and set out how things will progress over the next few weeks.
"Even if you are familiar with election events, I would encourage you to attend. We are aiming to have a diverse representation of our population on the council.
“I look forward to meeting all the candidates, even though at this stage is will only be virtually.”
For more information on this session, contact the election office helpline on 01698 455745 or you can email them.
