Air monitors for schools
Published: Monday 7 March 2022
More than £730,000 is to be spent installing further air quality monitoring equipment in schools and nurseries.
Councillors were told that putting carbon dioxide (CO2) detectors in every learning space across South Lanarkshire would help maintain adequate ventilation levels, which also assist in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
Council Leader John Ross said: “Thanks to the council’s far-sighted rebuilding programmes, all our schools are modern and fit for purpose, so we have no concerns in relation to high levels of CO2.
“However, nothing is more important than the care of our children, so putting these additional monitors in place will provide further assurance.”
The council’s Executive Committee agreed to increase the 2021-22 capital programme to include an additional £299,000 awarded by the Scottish Government to purchase and install further monitors. This added to £433,000 awarded earlier this year.
