If you like your country music with an Irish twist, East Kilbride Village Theatre has just the show for you.
County Longford native, Declan Nerney will take to the stage in the venue on Thursday 3 March, bringing with him a back catalogue, spanning four decades.
Having lived through the musical revolution of the 1960s as a young man in the small town of Drumlish, Declan draws on diverse creative influences, from Elvis Presley to Philomena Begley.
He was also fortunate enough to see many of the big showbands of the time perform live in his hometown, absorbing every move made by the guitarists on stage hoping that one day he might be up there performing just like Dan O’Hara or Seamus McMahon.
From that point on he wasted no time, landing his big break at the age of just 16 with his band the Hi-Lows and his autobiographical debut ‘The Marquee in Drumlish’.
Fast forward more than 40 years and Declan has lived most of his life on stage, entertaining thousands of fans around the world with his unique blend of Irish country music.
He’s won many accolades and scored countless hits along the way from ‘Anna from Fermanagh’ to ‘Gotta get up in the Mornin' and ‘Hooley in the Sun’.
And it seems that the talent and passion for music runs in the family, as Declan’s niece is Una Healy, one-fifth of girl band ‘The Saturdays’.
Tickets for what promises to be a hugely entertaining evening are on sale now, priced £22.50, and available from the venue or from the online box office.
