Tell us your views on proposed new leisure centre
Published: Monday 7 February 2022

Residents in Larkhall and the surrounding area are being asked for their views on a proposed new leisure centre for the town.
Consultation is underway, with an information page and survey now available on the council website. The survey will remain open until Friday, 18 March 2022.
The current centre opened in 1966 and has since undergone an extension and major refurbishments, but there are currently various challenges in terms of accessibility.
Users and non-users of the centre are being asked a range of questions, including what they would like to see in a new centre and if the location should remain the same.
With challenges to the council budget still continuing, costs will also have to be factored into any final decision.
Chair of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Councillor Peter Craig, said: “We want as many people as possible from the community of Larkhall to tell us their views on the proposed new centre.
“This will help us shape and prioritise all the various elements that are needed.
“In order to meet future climate change and sustainable energy targets, it is essential that this building is planned and designed to be carbon neutral.
“This can be achieved through the orientation of the building, use of natural resources such as ventilation, light, heat and water, green infrastructure, sourcing materials and equipment as well as energy efficiencies achieved by using the latest technology.
“You may have participated in the previous consultation exercise as part of the Neighbourhood planning exercise.
“We now want to engage the community further in decision making and planning for the new centre, building on the previous findings and gathering more detailed views on the project.”
