A new development of affordable flats for rent in East Kilbride has been given the go-ahead.
South Lanarkshire Council’s Planning Committee approved the housing association development this week after hearing full details of the plans for the site of the former Greenhills Sport Centre.
The development will see 28 new, two bedroom flats built for social rent by Merchant Homes Partnership on behalf of Sanctuary Housing Association, one of the country’s largest independent social housing providers.
The plans include on site parking for each flat, including two disabled parking bays.
Members of the Planning Committee heard that the housing association is expected to engage with South Lanarkshire Council over the allocation of flats to new tenants once the development is complete.
Chair of Planning Councillor Isobel Dorman said: “This proposal fits in well with our development plan to deliver a good supply of affordable housing in all areas of South Lanarkshire. The committee was delighted to be able to pass this approval as recommended by our planning team."
