First World War – Arts Development partnership
A number of exciting projects are being delivered in partnership with our colleagues in Arts Development. South Lanarkshire’s museum collection lies at the centre of these projects.
The projects were given generous funding of £68,000 from The Heritage Lottery Fund. They will deliver First World War related events involving dance, music and song, drama, and arts and crafts. Cameronian soldiers' stories will be brought to life using material held in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) archive records. It is a chance for school pupils and the wider community to learn about the personal side of the conflict.
Professional screen writers, song writers and choreographers have been working with museum staff to interpret these stories. They will be delivered, in conjunction with school groups from across South Lanarkshire, through dance, song, and drama.
The material used in these projects has been identified through a program of ongoing digitisation and transcription work. This is being carried out by museum staff and with the valuable assistance of our dedicated volunteers.
