Adult and child
For children aged 25 - 36 months.
Aim
To further develop the core aquatic skills through structured play and develop the independence necessary for the next level (without an adult in the water).
Objectives
- The child will demonstrate independent movement and a range of core aquatic skills
- The child will have developed confident submersion and aquatic breathing
- The child will have been involved in interaction with other adults and children
- The child will be more attentive to the teacher’s instruction and less reliant on adult support in preparation for the next level
Exit Criteria
1. With an adult in the water, nearby but not supporting, make an independent standing and sitting entry into the pool
2. Jump in and turn around, return to wall, monkey to steps and climb out
3. Exit the pool safely without using the steps
4. Blow an object across the surface of the water for 2 metres
5. With buoyancy aids, rotate 360 degrees in a vertical position
6. From front lying position rotate 180 degrees around horizontal axis to back lying, similar round longitudinal axis
7. Float with buoyancy aids, on front and back for a minimum 5 seconds
8. Use arms and legs to travel in any direction for approximately 5 metres
