Sports Councils
South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture supports the work of the four local Sports Councils within South Lanarkshire: Cambuslang and Rutherglen, Clydesdale, East Kilbride and Hamilton as well as the area-wide South Lanarkshire Disability Sport.
The Sports Councils are primarily voluntary organisations with the main responsibility of promoting interest and participation in sport and organising events and championships within their local areas. The day-to-day promotion of participation in sports is carried out by each organisation's Executive Committee, appointed yearly at their respective Annual General Meetings.
SLDS is a voluntary organisation with a responsibility to promote interest and participation in sport for people with disabilities within South Lanarkshire. SLDS is a member branch of Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) who are the governing body of sport for athletes and players with a physical, sensory or learning disability. Membership of SLDS is open and free to any South Lanarkshire school, club or individual. Benefits of affiliating to the SLDS can be found here.
Each of the local sports councils are looking to recruit student volunteers on to their individual committees. If you have an interest in the promotion and development of local sport and can commit to attending monthly meetings this may be for you. East Kilbride Sports Council are particularly interested in volunteers who can help them develop their social media presence.
