Chatelherault Country Park has it all and entry is FREE!
With a visitor centre, cafe, gift shop, informative and educational displays, over ten miles of routed pathways, an adventure playground, and picnic and BBQ facilities, there’s plenty to keep you and your family occupied at Chatelherault Country Park.
The Oaks Cafe
The stylish newly refurbished Oaks Café has an internal seating capacity area of 110 with a further 40 seats within the external courtyard area. The healthy snacks and tasty treats on the menu suit all culinary requirements.
Visitor Centre and Gift Shop
Find out more about the history and heritage of Chatelherault and the Hamilton area through our educational and informative displays. The Gift Shop, located within the Visitor Centre, has a well stocked range of goods ranging from contemporary designer jewellery and unique gifts to locally produced sweets and pocket money toys.
Adventure play area
This totally integrated playground has equipment to suit toddlers to teenagers. The play area is designed to challenge and stimulate both the physical and mental abilities of all children, providing hours of entertainment.
Picnic and BBQ areas
Adjacent to the play facilities, the park has a contained picnic site with free to use 'first come first use' on site barbeques.
Nature trails
Feel close to nature within 10 miles of stunning woodland and gorge paths which follow the course of the river Avon from Hamilton to Larkhall.
Chatelherault to Low Parks Heritage Trail App - This app (which is free to download from Google Play or the App Store, depending on your device) details and tracks your route while providing heritage content along the way. It is walking and cycling route between two of South Lanarkshire’s most prestigious historic buildings enhanced to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy and engage with their local heritage and landscape, while benefitting their health and wellbeing.
Learn key facts about the landscape’s history and enjoy archive images and historic footage to enhance your experience and finish off with a leisurely wander around the museum, a browse in the shop or visit the café for a spot of something lovely! (This route can be reversed, Chatelherault’s shop and café are also well worth a visit!)
The project has been funded by Smarter Choices, Smarter Places – Paths for All’s grant scheme to support behavioural change initiatives to improve people’s lives.
Weddings and Events
The magnificent Banqueting Room at Chatelherault is the perfect location for your Wedding or special event. With its tall romantic Venetian windows, ornate plasterwork and tall ceilings which open out into elegant landscaped Parterre gardens, it’s the ideal setting to capture your perfect photographs.

The entrance to the country park is within the village of Ferniegair, 2.5 km south east of Hamilton on the A72 Hamilton, Larkhall / Lanark, Clyde Valley tourist route and is a short drive from the M74 (junction 7).
The park is also accessible by train with a daily half hour service (hourly on Sundays) stopping at the Chatelherault station on the Hamilton - Larkhall line.
Local bus services include Whitelaw Buses number 250, 253, 254 and 255 which stop at the entrance to the Park.
Disabled access
Disabled parking and toilet facilities are available within the park, and are well signposted on information boards throughout the park. Assistance dogs are welcome.
The visitor centre, gift shop, cafe and exhibition areas are all fully accessible. The Banqueting Room and Duchess Room are accessible; however, the Duke’s Room is only accessible by stairs.
Some of the trails have steps and/or steep inclines and may not be suitable for wheelchairs, prams or those with mobility difficulties. Please see our trails leaflet for more information or contact us.
