The Provy Wummin

13 Mar 2025

The Provy Wummin

Written and directed by Paul Moore.

An Arts Enigma Theatre production.

The musical comedy hit of 2024!

It’s 1979. Does the wean want a chopper for Christmas or does mammy fancy a new outfit from What Every Woman Wants?

The Cost of living? The cost of loving? Does mammy need some help? Well Margaret Morrison is that friendly face, who can help. The Provident Woman knocked on many a door on a Friday, offering friendly loans to families struggling to make ends meet. But what cost life? What cost love? What every woman wants? Or was it what she needed?

The musical comedy smash hit of 2023 -2024 makes its final rounds in 2025. Don’t miss it! A gritty musical comedy, with a fabulous soundtrack to the 70s, featuring a superb all-female cast.

Exhibition: The Dutch Don’t Forget – The Cameronians in the British Liberation Army

The Dutch Don't Forget exhibition at Low Parks Museum

Standing outside the entrance to Low Parks Museum is a simple, bronze memorial plaque on a polished granite plinth that bears the words “The Dutch Don’t Forget”. The plaque was presented to veterans of the 52nd (Lowland) Division, a Scottish, Territorial Army formation that played a vital part in the liberation of the Netherlands in the final stages of the Second World War. The message is simple, the Dutch will never forget the sacrifices made by the men of the 52nd (Lowland) Division in freeing them from Nazi oppression.

Two battalions of The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) proudly fought in the Dutch campaign in the Second World War. The 6th Battalion, historically covering the county of Lanarkshire, and the 7th Battalion, drawn mainly from the south side of the city of Glasgow.

This commemorative exhibition highlights the part played by these two battalions, as part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division, in this pivotal stage of the Second World War.

Fiona MacGregor is a local artist and multisensory storyteller. Pre-Covid, Fiona’s company Freerange ArtFarm worked with children and adults with additional needs, using props, puppets, music and sound technology equipment to provide interactive art and storytelling sessions.

When lockdown put a halt to her business, Fiona turned to art commissions, and wrote and illustrated her first children’s book, The Brownie of the Butter Burn, early in the Covid-19 pandemic. She has a passionate interest in rewilding and protection of natural habitats and wildlife and followed up her first success with The Canny Capercaillie. She donates a percentage of sales from Capercaillie to Trees for Life, a Scottish rewilding charity.

Fiona continues to paint commissions and takes her storytelling sessions to groups and festivals.

You can find her work on Facebook and Instagram as Freerange ArtFarm, and on her website.

JKL Duo, Young at Heart Festival

The JKL DUO, comprised of Kerry Lynch (flute, whistle and bodhran) and Jacopo Lazzaretti (classical/electric guitar) play music straight from the heart, using their instruments to speak to listeners all across the world.

The duo teamed up in 2015, connecting over their shared love for Improvisation, World, Classical, Jazz and Celtic music, and have since used their eclectic musical tastes to cultivate exciting multi-genre projects.

In 2023, Kerry and Jacopo released their debut album ‘The International Poet’, which pays homage to Scotland’s national bard Robert Burns. They have been touring it extensively in concert series and festivals within Scottish cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Isle of Skye, being described as ‘simply stunning’ by Skye Chamber Music.

The CD has been broadcast in Scotland, was awarded ‘Album of the Week’ at Celtic Music Radio, and in August 2023 the duo went to Rome to present it on Luigi Picardi’s show L’Arpeggio’ for Vatican Radio.

Kate Calder from the Edinburgh Music Review described it as ‘a stimulating and thought-provoking take on the music found by Robert Burns’, and Canadian guitarist Michael Ibsen said, “To see such a unique, well-executed, and fresh concept for a chamber music album is a rare delight, and the world is all the richer for JKL DUO's cheek in attempting such a project.”

Teaching is also at the heart of JKL’s work, with them running their own studio in Glasgow’s West End ‘JKL DUO Studio’. Here they teach a flute and guitar programme, in which they offer students 1-1 tuition, access to group classes, chamber music ensembles and performance opportunities. They strive to create an inspiring, warm and vibrant learning environment, providing high quality music tuition, stress free.

Jacopo and Kerry were delighted to become LMNS artists in 2024. They resonate deeply with the organisation’s care for authentic music making and feel very inspired by the work they do.

JKL DUO is represented by Classical Musicians Scotland and are Sofar Sounds artists.

Places are limited for most events so advance booking is advisable! Tickets can be booked online or by contacting Rutherglen Town Hall on 0141 613 5700 or email RutherglenTownHall2@southlanarkshireleisure.co.uk.
