FAQ answers all your questions on Strategic Commissioning

We are inviting views to help shape health and social care vision for tomorrow.

What is the Strategic Commissioning Plan and why are you seeking views on it?

The Strategic Commissioning Plan 2025-2028 will outline the key priorities for the ongoing development of health and social care services in South Lanarkshire over the next three years and beyond. This Plan is vital as it will focus on the support that the South Lanarkshire University HSCP can provide to people in local communities to help them maximise their health and wellbeing. Engaging with a range of stakeholders is crucial to ensuring the Plan reflects what is important to the community.

What is Strategic Commissioning?

Strategic commissioning encompasses all activities involved in assessing and forecasting needs, aligning resources with agreed outcomes, considering various options, planning the nature, range, and quality of future services, and working in partnership to implement these services. Effective strategic commissioning is essential for the success of integrated health and social care provision.

How will this work when in the face of significant challenges faced by all public services?

South Lanarkshire University HSCP will follow the plan to guide the allocation of resources in health and social care, aiming to deliver the best possible care within available means. The significant challenges faced by all public services are well publicised. There are, however, also opportunities for public sector bodies that have the vision to work differently and are prepared to challenge themselves to do so. Indeed, there are many examples of local innovation that our leadership team, our staff and our partners have driven forward over the last three years. We all have a stake in the future of our health and social care services, we are grateful for the suggestions from our partners and our communities as we shape our next three-year Strategic Commissioning Plan.
