Home Carer jobs - making a real difference to the lives of others

As a Home Carer within our Care at Home service, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Community Nurses, and Social Care professionals to support, motivate and inspire people to re-learn daily skills and enhance their quality of life. We are looking for people of all ages, male and female to join the Care at Home Service.

What it’s like to work as a Home Carer

To work as a Home Carer you must have the relevant qualification to meet SSSC registration (SVQ2 Health/Social Care, equivalent, higher). We will give you full training and develop your skills to help you gain SVQ3 qualifications in health and social care.

We have three areas to work in as a Home Carer:

Home Carer (Home Assessment Team) – You will work with service users using reablement and rehabilitation approaches, for a period of up to 6 weeks, and support them to attain or regain skills and abilities and help them achieve as much independence as they can in their own homes. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Community Nurses and Social Care professionals to support, motivate and inspire people to re-learn daily skills and enhance their quality of life. This may be required following a period in the hospital or to prevent hospital admission.

Home Carer (Care at Home) – You will work with service users to enable them to remain in their own homes and achieve their goals with as much independence as they can by assessing, identifying and mitigating risks. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Community Nurses and Social Care professionals.

Home Carer (Alert) – You will provide an emergency response service to service users who require support following the activation of technology in their homes. The service uses Technology Enabled Care (TEC) equipment to support people living at home, and you should have an interest in and understanding of technology and its use. The role involves using TEC equipment, responding to calls and dealing with intimate personal care tasks.

Positions available

We have vacancies throughout South Lanarkshire, full-time and part-time. When applying please state your preferred location and which area of Home Care you are interested in.

The grade for these posts is Grade 2 level 3 - £17.04 to £17.51 per hour. As this is a shift working post, you will receive an additional 1 or 2 increments (depending on your shift pattern) which will be consolidated into your salary. This role will require flexible evening and weekend work.

Shift pattern

  • The morning shift can start between 7am and 8am
  • Backshift can end between 9pm and 11pm

We have a variety of contracted hours available to suit your circumstances:

17.5 5 hours working in the morning or backshift

35 Split shift of 5 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the evening

Applying for a Home Carer Position

When applying for a position of Home Carer we want you to include the following:

  • Provide examples of your work or other activities which demonstrate your ability or aptitude to undertake the duties of the post
  • Provide an example of when you had to deal with a situation, where you had to act quickly, assess the risks, and use your initiative and judgement to deal with this. Tell us about what happened, what the risks were, how you used your skills to assess and mitigate the risks, and what the overall outcome for the service user.
  • Please provide your thoughts on what you feel would be important to the people you would be providing a service to, how you would approach this, and how you would support people while assessing risks.
  • Provide examples of how you would be flexible to meet individual needs, and include details of a variety of situations from your own work experience that demonstrate this.
  • Provide an example of a situation where you identified risks for an individual service user, describe what concerned you, why, what your actions were and what the overall outcome was for the service user.
