Litter, bins and street sweeping
What we are doing
We routinely pick up litter and mechanically sweep public areas, remove fly-posting on council-owned land. We do this more frequently in town centres and other litter hotspots to deal with the growing amount of dropped food waste and packaging. We generally do not clean areas such as industrial estates, motorways and privately-owned land such as Hamilton Retail Park.
We also have rapid response teams which tackle dangerous materials including needles, glass and other environmental crimes like fly tipping.
We work with schools, our own employees, community groups and voluntary organisations to raise awareness and gather feedback from the public.
By involving groups in environmental projects, we hope to encourage people to take ownership of their community, build local pride, reduce the fear of crime and improve the local environment and we will support groups and individuals who are prepared to tackle local problem areas.
