Proposed Traffic Regulation Order - Strathaven Town Centre (One Way) Order 2022
Preliminary report for the introduction of a one way traffic system
Location: Bridge Street, Strathaven and Wellbrae, Strathaven
Proposal: The introduction of a one way traffic system
- Bridge Street, Strathaven, is situated between Common Green and Castle Street and gives access to residential and commercial properties.
Wellbrae, Strathaven, is situated between (A71) Kirk Street and Common Green and gives access to residential and commercial properties.
- The existing regulations on Bridge Street are no waiting or loading at any time and no waiting, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
The existing regulations on Wellbrae are no waiting or loading at any time and no waiting, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
- After concerns about the traffic within the town centre, the Strathaven Town Group-Transportation Sub Group put various options for altering traffic flows around the Common Green/Bridge Street/Wellbrae area, out to consultation. Existing traffic management arrangements create problems with congestion and are detrimental to road safety.
- As a result of the consultation regarding the traffic management arrangements around the Common Green/Bridge Street/Wellbrae area of the town, it is proposed to make Bridge Street one-way from Common Green towards Castle Street and to make Wellbrae one-way from Kirk Street towards Common Green.
- The Chief Constable, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and the Local Members have been consulted and have no objections to the proposals.
- I recommend, therefore that South Lanarkshire Council advertises its intention to make a Traffic Regulation Order introducing a one way traffic system on Bridge Street and Wellbrae, Strathaven.
