Street naming and street name signs

We are responsible for property addressing across the council area. This includes naming new streets, issuing street numbering and registering addresses for all new developments.

New street names are issued after consulting with local Councillors. Suggestions from the local community are always welcome.

We manage street numbering - from large residential and commercial developments to single house plots. We do not allocate names to properties but will check for duplications and circulate new or amended property names where they are required. 

Postcodes will be allocated by Royal Mail prior to the circulation of the finalised address information to the relevant authorities, including emergency services, gas and water companies. 

We also erect new street nameplates and replace existing ones that are damaged.
