Road safety calendar competition
Every year we run a calendar competition, open to all schools in the area.
The winners
All the winning designs are on our 2024 road safety calendar pages.
The entries
Invitations to take part are sent out to all schools along with guidelines. This year we received just under 2288 paintings from 79 schools. Headteachers send in the best five from each class. They are then reviewed by the Traffic and Transportation Section and placed into the five categories.
The competition topics were:
- Primary 1 and 2 ‘Stop, look, listen, think’
- Primary 3 and 4 ‘Safe places to cross’
- Primary 5 and 6 ‘Safety around larger vehicles’
- Primary 7 ‘Crossing near stationary vehicles/buses'
- S1 to 6 ‘Being a safe pedestrian or passenger’
Judging
These entries were whittled down by the Traffic and Transportation Section and the final 16 entries were judged remotely by a panel of councillors, council officials, Scottish Fire and Rescue, and Police.
This year's Overall Winner, Emily Findlay, from Castlefield Primary School, received £100 prize money, an A0-sized calendar, and a trophy.
The winners of each section were also rewarded for their designs and highly commended certificates were issued to pupils whose artwork or road safety messaging stood out.
