Horses

Horses are powerful animals but are easily frightened and can panic, especially near fast moving traffic or at sudden loud noises.

Horse riders should ensure they wear a helmet specifically designed for riding as well as high visibility, protective clothing.

The British Horse Society provides road safety training for riders. Further details can be found on the British Horse Society website.

We also recommend courtesy between riders and drivers to improve safety and prevent difficult situations becoming more hazardous.

Road Safety Scotland has produced "A Guide to Safer Horse Riding on the Road". You can download at the Road Safety Scotland website.
