Adult road safety education
Older road users
Older people are a large and increasing proportion of the population. They are also some of our more vulnerable road users with most incidents involving them happening in familiar surroundings during daylight hours.
As people get older, it is inevitable that general fitness will begin to deteriorate. This may put older road users at an increased risk of being involved in an accident. Older people are also more likely to suffer injuries when they crash due to their more fragile physical condition (RoSPA).
As part of the United Nations Decade of Action for road safety, 2011 - 2020 we worked in partnership with the Police, Argos and Norbert Dentressangle to produce the film HGVs A road users guide to help improve road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
With drivers over 85 four times more likely to contribute to a collision, with many factors contributing to this, it is important to think about topics like car maintenance, health, medicines, mobility, different weather conditions and being a safe pedestrian, cyclists or public transport user.
