Parking on public roads

You can park on a public road as long as there are no traffic regulations in place and you aren't obstructing anything.

From Monday 6 January 2025, pavement parking legislation comes into force in South Lanarkshire.

If a vehicle is causing an obstruction the police may issue a fixed Penalty Notice.

If a vehicle is parked in a bus or taxi lane our Parking Unit may issue the ticket.

How to report a parking obstruction

We do not have the power to take enforcement action against obstructive parking as this is the responsibility of the police.

We only have the power to deal with parking in areas with traffic regulation orders.

If vehicles are parking in such a manner as to cause an obstruction Police Scotland has the necessary powers to deal with this. Please phone 101 for non-emergency enquiries or see Police Scotland Contact us.
