Choosing a care home
Care home options
If it's agreed that moving to a care home is the best way forward for you, here are your options:
- residential care homes have staff trained to a minimum of Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 and will support and encourage people to remain as active and independent as they can
- nursing homes are similar but have additional equipment and trained nurses on duty to provide nursing care
- some homes are registered to provide both kinds of care
All homes are registered with the Care Inspectorate which checks up on them to ensure they meet national standards.
We run three residential care homes and there are many other homes in the area run by voluntary organisations and private companies. For details of our residential homes please go to our care homes directory.
A list of homes with their latest inspection reports can also be found on the Care Inspectorate website.
