Supported care

Ongoing support

We will provide any necessary equipment you may require for the young person.

You will have the support of your own designated social worker and access to support 24 hours a day, via the out of hours service. Your social worker will visit regularly and provide advice, assistance and guidance. There is a duty system so that there is consistent support available.

Any young person placed will also have their own social worker who will also give you advice and support.

Training is offered on a regular basis, on issues such as Moving into Adulthood, Sexual Health and Relationships, Alcohol and Drugs Awareness.

You are given individual membership of the Fostering Network which is an independent organisation which offers training and advice for foster carers and professionals. This also entitles you to legal advice and representation if you ever need it as a supported carer.

Supported carers are paid an allowance for each young person in their care.

The current rate is £270 per week and is paid on a fortnightly basis.

You will be classed as self-employed, and this may affect you if you are in receipt of any benefits. You can get more information from HM Revenue and Customs at www.gov.uk
