Explosive store licence
If you need to store explosives at a premises, such as for quarry work or construction projects, you must apply for an explosive store licence. This licence confirms that your premises are suitable and that you meet all safety requirements.

An application form is available from the Health and Safety Executive.
How the application is dealt with
Once we receive your application, the police check your premises and assess whether they are suitable for storing explosives. A licence will only be issued if they are satisfied that you meet all safety and security standards.
When your licence is granted, we send copies to the Chief Constable and the Firemaster.
How much it costs
The current fees are:
- £178 for a new store licence
- £83 to renew an existing licence
- £35 to replace a lost licence
You will receive an invoice once your application has been approved.
