Private leasing through South Lanarkshire Council
Private leasing (renting your property out) through South Lanarkshire Council
South Lanarkshire Council from time to time leases privately owned properties for use as temporary homeless accommodation.
The most appropriate type of property is ex-local authority stock, as this is located in areas where the Council already has similar stock and a management presence which is therefore more cost effective. Also, in terms of any future maintenance and repair, it is consistent with other similar stock which the Council manages. In some cases other types of property may be considered.
The property must meet a minimum criteria which includes:
-
gas central heating with a gas maintenance contract in place and an up to date gas safety certificate
-
unfurnished with white goods (washing machine, fridge/freezer and cooker) Landlord is responsible for repairing or replacing should these become faulty
-
suitable flooring throughout (laminate flooring not acceptable in upper flats)
-
blinds throughout (venetian, vertical or roller)
-
hard wired smoke detectors (interlinked and more may be required depending on layout and size of property)
-
hard wired heat detectors
-
hard wired carbon monoxide detectors
-
window catches on all windows
-
trickle vents on all windows
-
internal glass doors not acceptable (unless safety glass)
-
UPVC front doors not acceptable within a close (unless fireproof)
-
standard bill meters for gas and electric (token meters not accepted)
Private leasing will not be considered if any landlord or their partners or spouses are employed by South Lanarkshire Council.
The owner(s) of the property must be a registered Landlord with Landlord Registration Scotland and also a member of Landlord Accreditation Scotland or in the process of registering.
