Education Resources Psychological Service

Research

South Lanarkshire Psychological Service has a core research function. The service involvement includes:

  • Larger scale research or consultation activity
  • Literature reviews to support service work or the work of partners in a range of ways
  • Providing support for Education Resources, in terms of the scrutiny of external research requests.

Research is a core function of South Lanarkshire Psychological Service.  Educational Psychologists in South Lanarkshire carry out research which contributes to an evidence base for educational practice, informs policy and strategy within Education Resources and the Children’s Service Partnership. The service applies an evidence-based approach to its work, and this will mean that psychologists cite and share relevant research-based evidence as relevant to their service delivery.

Recent examples of larger scale research the service has been involved in include:

  • Research regarding secondary school Joint Assessment Teams (JATS) (2021)
  • Parental perspectives on experiences during Covid (2020)
  • Primary aged pupil covid survey (2020)
  • Secondary age pupil covid survey (2020)
  • HT wellbeing survey (2020)
  • Community mental health consultation (2021-22)

Supporting the implementation of the Education Resources Attachment Strategy by:

  • Organising, delivering and evaluating training for all staff
  • Ensuring that resources are disseminated to all establishments and services
  • Supporting establishments and services to identify attachment leads and ambassadors
  • Facilitating networking opportunities for leads and ambassadors
  • Supporting services and establishments to use of the attachment informed practice measurement scales and reflect on attachment informed practice
  • Linking in with the wider inclusive education service to facilitate the embedding of attachment informed practice within education practices and procedures

Working with Education Resources' Curriculum and Quality Improvement Service to improve communication and sharing of resources across the authority.

External Research requests

The Psychological Service has a key role in evaluating external requests for research within South Lanarkshire Council Schools. There is an established robust protocol for this and a set of proformas. For further information please contact the service.
