Child Poverty Action Plan
What else we can do that will help
We want to make sure that the services our residents access, whether delivered by the big public agencies like the council or NHS Lanarkshire or those delivered by community and voluntary organisations or the private sector are respectful, person-centred and preserve the dignity of people in poverty. We will consider how we roll out staff training including the importance of avoiding stigma and developing understanding of the challenges of living on a very low income.
We want to work with communities where the levels of poverty are significantly higher than others to develop community led actions and plans. One example is the new Neighbourhood Planning work ‘Our Place Our Plan’, which is being driven by local communities.
This plan sets out priorities for our community identified by residents between November 2017 and February 2018 to be acted on over the next 10 years.
Further discussions and events have taken place in the community to agree what we want to focus on first. To make a real and lasting difference we need to take our time and do things right and not try and do everything at once.
We want to work with families who have a lived experience of poverty, to further develop this and future child poverty plans. This work has started and will be ongoing.
