Noise complaints

Environmental Services investigate noise problems such as:

• industrial noise
• burglar alarms
• pubs
• ice cream van chimes
• barking dogs
• loud music
• fireworks
• noise from domestic properties

After an initial investigation we can give advice to the person causing the noise and ask that they keep noise to reasonable levels within reasonable times. However, if complaints continue and noise nuisance levels are confirmed, we will serve Abatement Notices. If this is breached a report will go to the Procurator Fiscal.

We are also involved when planning applications are made for new houses or other buildings near noise sources, or for factories proposed near residential areas. Noise lowering measures may be required in these circumstances.
